Nosh Neneh

Photographer based in Amsterdam | Royal Acadamy of Art, Den Hague

Nosh Neneh plays with the blurry border between natural and artificial landscapes. Her photographs portray our world as a fragile beauty on the edge of the abyss, emphasizing the impact of climate change. She’s exploring ways to envision and mix the visible reality of nature with its critical connotations by working with alternative artificial light, using contrasting colour schemes and different methods of isolating. Treating it not as an anonymous part of a landscape, but as a unique ‘individual’.

Documentary work: As a human being, you participate in a social and economic system; how we live, earn our money, deal with technology and what's on our menu. The options are largely determined by others. But there are people who do it differently, who consciously choose a life outside the system. Who are the people that oppose the norm? Nosh Neneh tries to find and capture their motives. By blending documentary and conceptual photographic practices, she plays with reconstructions in order to build a more layered understanding of the subject she approaches.
